After reaching the round of 16 in Indian Wells, a tournament where conditions have never been very favorable for Stefanos Tsitsipas, the opportunity to deliver a better performance these days at the Miami Open 2025 opened up for the Greek from the moment the draw was made. It was not easy to come out victorious in the debut against Chun Hsin Tseng in the first round, and it won't be easy this afternoon against Korda either, but the Athenian player is aware of the factors he needs to polish so that his tennis arrives as well-prepared as possible for the clay court season. He even has time to study his partner, Paula Badosa, and help her take the next step. In a very pleasant chat with Tennis Channel, we hear Tsitsipas recount how he is spending these days.

Complications against Tseng

"Last night I could hardly sleep, which is quite unusual for me, it doesn't usually happen to me very often, but it's something that has affected me during the match, I was carrying that feeling of not having rested enough. I struggled a bit to find energy, I couldn't see the ball clearly, hence the bad feelings in the first set. The goal was to gradually get involved in the match and show my weapons, which has been achieved from the second set onwards. In the end, I ended up winning, so it means I was able to do it, I found a way from the moment I started to return better."

Every detail counts

"I always try to carry out any action that I know will help me in competition later, even if that action represents a simple 5% improvement. Nowadays, one has to go out there prepared to overcome multiple obstacles, prepared to have a Plan B or a Plan C if needed, so I always consider these options in each match. This time what happened to me is that I felt a bit lazy on the court, so I had to 'wake up' little by little and find my connections on the court. I started feeling my game gradually, I began to return much faster and understood how I could unsettle my opponent."

Differences between Indian Wells and Miami

"I would have liked the ball in Indian Wells to come out a bit more, I came from playing in Dubai and there I liked the conditions, it helped me to achieve better returns and push my opponents to the limit. In Indian Wells, the situation changed, my game changed, the bounce was much higher and my opponents had extra time to adjust their game. That's why I prefer the conditions we find here in Miami, where I have an easier time finding my big shots and penetrating a bit more into the court."

Korda in the third round

"My plan for tomorrow is to work a lot on my serve, I believe I can do much more damage with this shot. Today I didn't feel as good as I wanted, although I didn't make many double faults, but I'm convinced I can do better. I need my serve to work to set up my next shot, so I have to work a bit more on that, the same goes for the return. Today things went well, but there is still a long way to go, I need to cause more damage."

Watching Badosa's game

"It happens to me many times, that I go to bed thinking about Paula's game and what things she should do the next day to improve, I can even talk to her coach to tell him, until later I focus only on my match. That feeling exists, it happens very often, it becomes very emotional when you tend to get very involved in the concerns of your partner, but you have to find the moment to refocus on your things. It happens in both directions, also to her, so what we do is save our criticisms until the end of the tournament."
