Arthur Fils and Thiago Seyboth Wild starred in one of the controversies of the year at the 2025 Davis Cup. With Fils leading 6-1 and the second set tied at 4-4, the Frenchman had a break point that could almost seal the match. After a rally, both players were near the net when Fils aimed at his opponent's body and the ball ended up going out over the baseline. While it cannot be guaranteed 100% that the Brazilian did not touch the ball, Thiago criticized the move by signaling 'touch' to the chair umpire, and later to Fils, accusing him of lacking sportsmanship in a play that practically decided the match. "It's a big mistake," captain Jaime Oncins also scolded the umpire. After a tense handshake following the 6-1 6-4 match, they had to be separated by French captain Paul-Henri Mathieu, fearing that the situation could escalate.
